At snowboardingforum.com there was a discussion about nightlife & hot spots. Someone mentioned Mont Tremblant and a few of the bars there, specifically Le P’tit Caribou and Café d’Epoque. Having visited Mont Tremblant last February, here’s my review of Café d’Epoque.
I’ll review La Diable micro-brewery soon, in the meantime, I posted my review of Le P’tit Caribou yesterday.
In fairness, the crowd at Café d’Epoque was a slightly older crowd than. It’s kind of got this “lounge” feel to it, if a bar can still be a “lounge” and a “dive bar” at the same time. Interesting concept they had, I guess. Mandatory coat check at both places is kind of a bummer. The drinks here were not outrageously priced by resort standards, actually I thought they were pretty reasonably priced.
One night at Epoque, Adam lost his brand new Burton snowboard jacket that he bought earlier that day (he swears that the guys at the coat check stole it, but I think he just lost it) so why he was hell-bent on going back to this bar, even though they “stole” his jacket, is beyond me. I think it had something to do with the bartender.
So in order to appease him, we went back to Epoque and watched him spit game at this bartender that he had met the night before. We all tried telling him that she doesn’t really like you, she works for tips, but he was in some sort of zone: as long as he was buying rounds of drinks, she pretended to like him. I guess that’s a “zone”.
To our great fortune, he decided to buy a bottle of Absinthe to the tune of something like $280 CDN. We also told him this was a terrible idea. But either he was not listening, or we didn’t really sell the idea.
We met some dirty kids from NJ, I parlez-vous’ed with the Frenchy bartenders and some other Quebecois, and all-in-all it was a much better time than I had at Caribou.
The bar Café d’Epoque was pretty chill, more electronic music, and had a more relaxed vibe than Caribou.
