Skateistan
Posted on November 30, 2010 | No CommentsJust a little reminder that here in the US we very often are taking for granted all of the things we have which are very much luxuries pretty much everywhere else in the world. Skateistan is now a 501c(3) non-profit and eligible for tax deductible donations. If you're in the giving mood this holiday season, consider tossing a few bucks their way. -
How to Prevent Grip Tape Thumb, and Other Lessons
Posted on October 16, 2010 | No CommentsI guess they want you to go buy Etnies shoes or something. They do make good shoes, I first started skating on an old-ass hand-me-down/stolen pair of Etnies. I haven't tried any new etnies, but I did like these old ones because they had a good low profile and not too much sole or anything. They just felt like I had good contact with the board. -
Evolution of Skate
Posted on October 1, 2010 | No CommentsStill socially "outcast" skateboarders are now more mainstream than ever (although the glory days of the 80s might disagree), and the publicity and success of things like the X-Games and Tony Hawk provideo games has only increased that popularity. -
D’oh! (Skateboards, Old and New)
Posted on September 30, 2010 | 2 CommentsPARTY TIP: you should probably have a spare deck on hand, in case you break your skateboard in half. Last time I went out for a skate I noticed a small spot beginning to delam, the product of repeated fails as the board went wrong-way into the business end of a concrete parking block (does a parking block have another end?). This happened the other night just as I had started out for the evening. I didn't get maybe 10 minutes in and I heard the telltale snap. -
Skate Update
Posted on September 2, 2010 | 1 CommentIt turns out you can teach an old dog new tricks. Just so happens that it's pretty difficult, and it takes a lot of time and patience. I stand by my previous statement that skateboarding is the hardest sport I've ever participated in. -
Off-Season Training: Skateboarding Update
Posted on June 26, 2010 | 3 CommentsNothing impressive, but I want to log the progress that I'm making as I learn how to skateboard. I found that keeping a public list of my goals really keeps me accountable and helps me progress. Fit-wise, I'm doing OK. The first few times out I got really sore because I was using muscles that I'd never really used before.
