Crystal Mountain – March 6, 2010

Uploaded a few pictures from Saturday at Crystal Mountain. Weather was beautiful for spring riding in Michigan – bluebird skies all day long, I rode wearing nothing but a t-shirt. Got myself some sunburn on the arms and neck to show for it.  I might have a short video to post later, but for now, here’s the few pictures I took:

As you might imagine, with the sun beating down all day and temps hovering in the mid-40′s, the snow had the consistency of mashed potatoes most of the day; even the snow in the glades had softened by mid-afternoon, which made for some fun riding.

Jake took a 2-hour lesson at Crystal Mountain’s kids program, which sounds like it went really well. For about $50 he got a 2-hour lesson and that includes his daily equipment rental.  The lesson because of light crowds was semi-private (only one other kid in the class) and because he’s younger than 9 years old, he gets free lift tickets.  His instructor said he did great, and he was even linking turns and learned how to stop.

Those are the only things I wanted for him to learn, so that’s cool!  Unfortunately, I think he still hasn’t figured out that he can use turns/carves to check his speed. He just goes straight down the hill, so fast that he can’t stop, and bails on his bottom.

We’ll have to work on that next winter :)
