GoPro Launches HD Hero2

GoPro HD Hero2

GoPro HD Hero2

Boasting twice the processing power, a redesigned lens, as well as improvements in low-light performance, GoPro just announced the release of their HD Hero2 POV camera, and it seems poised to be a game-changer just like the original HD Hero.

One of the nicest surprises (in addition to all the tech stuff below)  is that they haven’t bumped the price, the Hero2 is offered at $299 and the price will drop on the original hero to $199-239.

The improved HD Hero2 shoots in 4 different framerates, up to 120 fps, and will capture 1080p footage in 3 different viewing angles: 90, 127, and 170 degrees. GoPro has also improved its still photo functionality, allowing up to 10 photos per second at 11 megapixes, or time-laps 11 megapixel photos at .5 second intervals. Additionally, every GoPro user should be happy to learn that the HD Hero2 promises better controls/interface which should not be too difficult given how cumbersome and cryptic the old 3-digit interface was, as well as long-range remote controls.

The Hero2 is in-stock & ready to ship at the Official GoPro® Store.

Also coming soon: a Wi-Fi backpack that’s capable of streaming live video. Fo’ realz.

According to Rudy Samuels, GoPro’s Director of Product Definition:

The HD HERO2 is much, much easier to use than the original HD HERO. If you know how to use a traditional camera, you can use the HD HERO2 straight out of the box without instructions. This makes the HD HERO2 very powerful as an every day, easy to use consumer camera while retaining all of the features, modes and performance that has made GoPro the best selling small form factor HD camera to Hollywood.
