La Diable Brewery – Mont Tremblant Nightlife (Part 3)

At snowboardingforum.com there was a discussion about nightlift & hot spots. Someone mentioned Mont Tremblant, and a few of the bars there, specifically Le P’tit Caribou and Café d’Epoque.

Earlier in the week I reviewed Caribou and Epoque, I wanted to throw La Diable microbrewery in to the mix, not because it’s a nightlife hotspot, but because I had a good time there.  I really did prefer La Diable, probably because I’m getting old and shit.

We ended up at La Diable after driving 12 hours overnight, waiting for our half-day lift tickets to validate after noon. It was our first taste, literally and figuratively, of Tremblant. Adam powered down a bowl of chili and fries, and after convincing me to do a 11am shot of Jack Daniels’, decided that for himself he needed more whiskey. That was a mistake, because he only lasted 3 runs, and I made it until last chair.

Situated in the heart of the pedestrian village, close to the on-site hotel lodging, the grocery store and some other restaurants, La Diable is a no-frills micro brewery: a large, oblong bar in the center, stills in the back where the brews were being brewed, tables downstairs and up.

We ate there a few times, and it was our rendez-vous of choice when we came off the slopes at 4pm.

La Diable is a pretty small establishment and can get crowded if you don’t get there early, for après this meant like 4:30 or earlier if you wanted a seat. Service was friendly and prompt, but nothing extraordinary (it’s a bar, who care?!?!).They brew all their own beers and serve a full menu (PDF).

I had the sausage platter twice, I think. Good stuff. No puns, please. The burgers and chili were great and really hit the spot, servings of waffle-cut frites smothered in gravy were irresistible. It has a rustic appeal to it, and the beers are solid, I really liked their Trappist-style ale, Extrême Onction and the Blizzard wheat ale.
