Went out the other night with Jon, decided to try and salvage the last of our melting snow. Both of us had really wanted to get out and hit some urban stuff this season but the weeks kept slipping by and schedules never synced up, etc. but finally we went up to Pontiac Central high school which shut down a few years ago to check out the scene there.

PCH Tennis Court Rail
It is a pretty good looking rail although the landing is a bit sketchy & you really have to stop quickly or you fall in to the tennis courts. So we did what any good boarder would do, we shoveled it up and made a nice little approach, strapped up the Banshee Bungee and Jon took a few shots at it and it looked pretty easy.
…then I chickened out. Maybe it was the weird approach (flat) instead of coming down the slope where you can see the feature from above. Maybe it was the concrete steps. Or the sketchy landing. Or the sun in my eyes. Fuck.
I don’t know what happened. this particular rail isn’t super gnarly it’s not even more difficult than most rails at local ski resorts that I have hit before. But I just wasn’t feeling it and never worked up the balls to hit it. I am really bummed on this. Like really really bummed. Just hoping we get another storm before winter goes away so I can redeem myself because I’d hate to live with this feeling for the next 8 months.
So there’s the lesson for all you kids out there: you never know when “next time” is gonna be. Especially in a sport like ours that is so dependent on favorable weather and good timing and a lot of coincidence. Take the opportunities as they come up, because you never know how long you’re gonna have to wait for “next time”.
