Nub’s Nob Road Trip

Yesterday, a friend and I drove four hours to Nub’s Nob ski resort in Harbor Springs, MI where we rode for about 4.5 hours, and then drove another four hours home.  The forecast had called for 74 degrees, but the official high temperature yesterday was 81. No joke. I went sleeveless and in boardshorts for most of the day, and I have a wicked farmer’s tan/sunburn to prove it.

The bummer was, when about 15 minutes away from our destination, I had checked the Nubs website on my Blackberry, and saw the one thing I did not want to see:

The Terrain Park will be closed on Friday, re-opening on Saturday

I was really looking forward to getting in one more day at a decent park (Nub’s was one of the locations for last week’s Rome Stoken event) so I was crushed when I found out that the park was closed. There wasn’t a single box, rail, roller, kicker or jump to be found.

Overall, it was great to get to the mountain, to get a legitimate “last day of the season” on my terms, rather than on Mother Nature’s terms, even if we had to spend 8 hours in the truck for no park and slushpuppy conditions.  Like I always say, my worst day on the mountain is still one of my better days.

I’ll post a few more pictures, and maybe a very short (and embarassing video clip of me on the superpipe) sometime this weekend, along with a more thorough review of the trip and Nub’s Nob resort.
