Sundance Resort and PCMR – Park City Blogging (Part 2 of ?)

This is part 2 in a series documenting our week in Park City.  You can catch up on Part 1 here.

Three days in and 4 days to go, everyone is still riding pretty strong. We spent the first evening getting some warm-up runs during twilight hours at Park City Mountain Resort. It was good to get out on the slopes, but realistically they only have two open runs served by two chairlifts (First Timer and Payday lifts). The lighting on the run from Payday lift was poor at the top, making it difficult to see bumps, ruts, grooves, etc., in the trail. For $46, I probably wouldn’t do it again.

On Tuesday, we got up and headed out to PCMR again. The weather was beautiful bluebird skies and temps in the mid 30′s. It was almost too warm! Trying to avoid lines at the lift, we spent most of the afternoon on King Con, Silverlode and Thaynes lifts, but we also made some tracks down Sunrise and Georgianna from the McCoskey lift. From Thaynes, Keystone run was really nice and sun-drenched most of the day.

The bars for the most part were dead with few exceptions. On Monday night, the crowd at the No Name Saloon was pretty lively, service was good and booze was reasonably priced for a resort town.  Tuesday night, O’Shuck’s was hopping, because of the $3 32-oz beer specials.  Unfortunately, it had the feel (and the smell) of a frat house basement.  We walked in, turned around, and walked back out.

Wednesday we took it easy in the AM and drove out to Robert Redford’s Sundance Resort.  The forecast was pretty warm and I’d heard that the scenery there is amazing.  Since it was supposed to rain there later in the week, we decided to hit Sundance for the afternoon. Lift tickets there were considerably less expensive, but the resort is also considerably smaller.  Temps were close to 50 degrees, and they were definitely spring-time conditions, but it was a nice “take-it-easy” day, which I definitely needed since I’m trying to ride 7 days in a row.

Wednesday night, we stayed in and watched some Olympics. Women’s Giant Slalom was chock-full of sweet wipeouts (that last jump was straight murdering chicks!) and Men’s superpipe finals.  Rad.

Got a full night of sleep last night and the legs feel pretty solid under me.  Next up is Brighton Resort, we’re picking up Anthony at SLC today about noon, and heading up to Brighton for their 1230-9pm Twilight pass.

The forecast looks promising for the rest of the weak, heading probably to The Canyons tomorrow and playing it by ear over the weekend.
