Here’s the first video of the season, it’s not much, just what I could throw together based on about 45 seconds worth of footage from Wednesday night, when I met a few friends up at the glorious, 250′ vertical “Mount” Holly in Holly, MI.
I didn’t bother with a soundtrack, because f*cking youtube always mutes it anyways.
(Aspiring haters, be forewarned: I am not awesome, and I don’t pretend to be. You are probably better than me. You do bigger tricks on bigger jumps. I get it. You win.)
The first few seconds is a clip of my buddy Adam catching an edge a few weeks ago. thought i’d put it in here for fun, and also for public shaming. the rest is me fooling around on the Burton X8.
I hit that one good-sized jump (it’s the biggest they had at Mt. Holly) about 7 times. The board took some getting used to—I had some very wobbly straight airs earlier in the night, as I was getting used to how the X8 handled at speed.
I was just starting to feel real comfortable at speed up the kicker towards the end of the night, but I feel like I needed to be going faster (a feeling that was confirmed by the video evidence) because I was barely clearing the knuckle. It didn’t help that the line down to the jump wasn’t very steep, but I’ve cleared that tabletop easy on my Never Summer Legacy, but it’s a longer board and handles speed more comfortably.
Next time I ride, I’ll try to take it bigger or throw some spins and steez in the mix, too.
